Individual Counseling

Why would you come to counseling?  Let’s face it, most of us need help somewhere along the line.  It may be because you are unhappy, and the solutions that worked in the past aren’t working anymore.  It could be because the emotional pain has reached the place where you can’t stand it anymore.  It could be your spouse or friends are encouraging you to get some help.  Perhaps your anger is hurting your job and your relationships.  Or you have a sadness that just won’t go away.  You may wonder if you are depressed, or maybe you just don’t feel anything at all.

My particular focus is deep emotional distress – the kind of distress that doesn’t respond well to normal solutions – the kind of distress that just won’t go away.  In therapy, I help clients find the root causes for the emotional distress.  Based on what we find, we work together to alleviate the distress.  Sometimes therapy requires helping clients find new ways of approaching life. Other clients benefit from lifestyle changes.  A few may need medication to help the brain process emotional information in a more healthy manner.

Some people come to counseling with past emotional trauma, and they need healing for that trauma.  The particular approach to dealing with the trauma depends on many factors, such as the severity of the trauma, when the trauma occurred, and the depth of the emotional injury.
